About
はじまりの物語
I originally worked in a job that matched "people who make things" with "jobs." During this time, I began to wonder why so many people believe they can't do creative things or don't understand them. I thought this might be because they were suppressing their individuality. I started thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if there was an environment that could support individuality and creativity?" and "What kind of place would that be?"
Around this time, I heard from a friend that she was moving to Portland with her daughter, who had been struggling with truancy in Japan. I felt a deep love for children and sensed that this adventure held something important, so a month later, I got on a plane and was profoundly inspired by the trip.
This visit inspired an idea in October 2018 in Portland, Oregon, US, based on the creative and mutually supportive ideas of "If it doesn't exist, let's make it!" and "Everyone is different, and that's okay!"
In 2019, we held a pop-up event in Tokyo, where we demonstrated our craft bar, renovated the store using scrap wood in a DIY project, and successfully raised 165% of our crowdfunding goal to support our business launch.
Since starting our business, we have witnessed the smiles of those involved and felt an incredible response.
The mindset of being swept along by mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal without realizing it may be harming the environment and distancing us from true happiness.
Let's begin by making things while drinking at a bar. The materials we use are items that would otherwise be thrown away, so adding value to them and creating something new is very meaningful. I want as many people as possible to experience this.
In the future, I aim to create a creative reuse center where people can bring items no longer needed by companies or households. I want to create a recycling environment that stimulates people's imagination, where things that seem like trash can become someone else's treasure. I want to establish such a wonderland in Japan, a country that values the concept of "mottainai."
